Artist's Description

Built in 1862, Hillary House has been designated a National Historic Site (since 1971) because it is one of the best examples of domestic Gothic Revival architecture in Canada. The site is also unique due to its function as a doctor’s home and practice, from which Aurora’s first health care professionals treated local residents for about 100 years.

The building retains the majority of its original finishes, furnishings and features, making it a valuable way to share Aurora’s heritage with present and future generations. Thanks to its previous residents, Hillary House is also home to a nationally significant collection of medical records, books and artefacts that speak to the development of medicine in early Canada.
